Problems with GDM and so on

Hi all!

i want to login a user automatic on bootup. so i installed gdm but i have two problems:

i use xfce4, but gdm doesnt "remeber" the last session. everytime i boot up my machine, i have to select xfce4 in the session menu. i dont know why this happens.

so i tried to installed gnome. after some problems this works fine. gdm now remember gnome as last session. but wenn i use the gdmsetup tool to set my user to login in automaticly, he starts the failsafe session after reboot.

why?
does anyone of you have some ideas?

thank you for your help!
