Change applications icons? namely opera and audacity

I am trying to change the application (or taskbar?) icons for opera and audacity.  ive tried replacing the .xpm and .pngs in /usr/share/pixmaps, but when i open audacity or opera i still get the ugly icons.  any help? thanks guys

Edit the audacity and opera launchers (/usr/share/applications) and change the icon they use.

Make sure your icon theme doesn't have Opera or Audacity icons that are overriding what is in /usr/share/pixmaps.  For example, the KDEmod Oxygen icon package used to have an Opera icon in the package, so it would get used instead.

Once you have your icon replaced, also run xdg-icon-resource forceupdate to make sure your icon cache gets updated.
