How far in advance do we have to book everything?
I would say ASAP because we are not the only ones interested in using Humber. Having said that if we decide that we do not need the ECs we may be in better shape.
I may be able bring a simple projector that can be plugged to a laptop and go from there.

I wonder if we wouldn't be better off getting two classrooms instead of one ECs. We could have formal stuff in one, and leave the other as a place for people to gather informally... of course, hallways are perfectly useful for that too (and cheap )

We'll definitely have to schedule a social night of some sort, which will probably involve booze (and possibly dinner).
I'm not a booze kidda guy so I cannot make recommendations there and I'll leave that in your capable hands but if the thing is about dancing and eating I can help.
We will discuss that when the time comes.

Honestly, I don't booze either. I can hear the Americans saying, "WHAT IS WITH YOU CANADIANS," and the Germans nodding wisely and saying, "It's that Canadian beer, I wouldn't drink there either." But I've heard it's tradition when Archers get together that they get plastered... you and I can be the ones to hold the camera.

... need people to volunteer to give talks. Anything Arch, Linux, programming, or geek related will be considered.
If it is of interest I can give a talk on "How to use mod_python to develop interactive web sites."

I think it's a good idea, especially if you demonstrate the peculiarities of setting it up on Arch (by peculiarities, I mean, how you don't do it different from upstream -- that's weird )

To everyone: any sysadminy or programming task like this will be of interest to some Archer or another. We only need about 30 minutes of your time (unless you want an hour), please volunteer to talk! E-mail me with your ideas. Community projects, programming languages, how you use Arch at work, how you use it at home, it's all a potential topic.

If I come, i would like to do a talk about AIF/"arch installations for power users". and/or a brainstorming session about it.

If I come, I see things big and would like to hang around for a week or so with some of you and consider it a nice vacation. (the plane tickets price and jetlag are probably not worth it for just 2 days)

Man, I wish I had the guts to do a presentation when I was fifteen. If the topic is interesting, you're welcome too it; I've known plenty of fifteen year olds that could teach me a think or fifty.

That would be awesome; I'd also like to see a few 'development sprints,' AIF would be great for that too.

I'll be around for at least that long myself; I want to get ten or twelve hours of training in with my Tai Chi instructor while I'm in town. That'll amount to two or three hours per day, but other than that I'll be around for wandering around.

We'd be honoured if you came all that way, perhaps you can pack a few other European Archers in your suitcase.

I forgot to mention, if you're serious about presenting anything, you MUST send me an e-mail (dusty@archlinux.ca) before January 31, outlining your topic (or topics if you want to do multiples). If you think you might like to present, but aren't sure yet, send me your topic anyway, and I will contact you by the end of March to confirm if you can make it.

I see you are missing a presentation for Audio/Video. I'm mostly familiar with Ardour, though I have messed around with Kdenlive and made some amateur videos. I would be willing to do a presentation on Ardour although I would need to know all the details. I will try to come up with some details and email them to you at some point. Potential problems: 1)I'm a college student 2)I work full time in the summer. Toronto is a few hours away...

Dusty, I think we need to set up the registration form. Do you do it or do I do it?
I think it would be helpful to have a check box to indicate " [ ] this registration if firm" , " [ ] this registration is tentative" that way we will have a better idea of attendance.
We should also make the form "very available" once ready, so lots of people will be able to find it. I was wondering if we can have a banner in the archlinux.org promoting the ArchConf. We have some very good artists in the forum and it would be nice if a special promo banner was created. I know, I know I'm pushing things but hey as my mother used to say: "If you want something go and ask because if you never ask the answer is already "NO" since you do not have it; so now you are going for YES ..." so ... can we?

Another thing I would like to know is how may want to stay more than the two days so I can plan some activities of interest for them.

I can do it sometime this week, but if you do it first, I won't argue. I was planning on incorporating payment (paypal) with the form, so the registration in those cases would be firm (plus it would give us some capital to start reserving stuff). I could have another 'tentative interest' form, but this forum and comments on the blog should be enough to cover that. Can you give me the address of the campus; I vaguely remember Humber having two (or is it three... one in Guelph, is it?) campuses and I want to get the right one if I put a map and address on the website!

However, being a poor A level student starting uni in October it's not likely I'll be able to go, unless I somehow convince my dad he's come up with a brilliant idea: holiday to Canada this year!

Ok, after nuking half my un-backed-up public_html with an rm -r in the wrong directory (including the archcon blog, archlinux canada forum, and pyther's arch-home), I have managed to get the registration form working:

Registration isn't approved until payment is received. Payment is via PayPal; you don't have to have an account to pay with a credit card, but if you're one of those people who wants to avoid PayPal altogether, contact me directly with an alternative method of payment.

If possible, please register soon; not only are you taking advantage of the discounted price, but you'll also be helping Ricardo and I a) estimate the number of attendees and b) finance the operation!
