I'm very surprised that he uses a 9 inch netbook as his only computer just because it uses purely open source software. Looks like he is pretty darn hardcore about the free software movement.

I'm missing something here--you don't have to suffer with a 9 inch display to use free software.

Apart from that, it doesnt even have an x86 processor. It has some custom architecture called Loongson which is some kind of MIPs compatible CPU.

Most of the time I do not have an Internet connection. Once or twice or maybe three times a day I connect and transfer mail in and out. Before sending mail, I always review and revise the outgoing messages. That gives me a chance to catch mistakes and faux pas.

Wtf? That is the same as hiding in a cave these days.

Xyne's Richard Stallman story was the funniest thing I read in a while!
After a bit of research on Stallman's laptop I realized that not only the software is open source but also the hardware architecture designs.

This is more or less what I do, except for the rare day when I feel like chilling on IRC. It is fun (for introverted values of fun) and you should give it a try. It helps that 20% of my drive is full of documentation and fiction to read.

Isn't there that project "coreboot"?

Why doesn't Stallman have a computer that coreboot works on? That would make it all free software, no?

Yes, Coreboot is an opensource alternative to BIOS.

knowing Stallman, he probably doesn't pay for internet, he probably just goes to a coffee shop and uses their "open source" wifi.

Perhaps Stallman also likes the fact that the machine's architecture is also Free, as zowki said.
