Bug Squashing Day

We (the Arch devs) have decided to try having a bug squashing day.

The idea is that everyone who is able, for a single day, will get together and try to close as many bugs as possible.

Our current plan is to have a bug squashing day the first sunday of every month.  We'll most likely have an irc channel dedicated to the task.  Anyone will be able to join and help out.  All you really need is an account on the bug tracker (assuming no one is around to just accept your fixes on the spot).

Re: Bug Squashing Day

Good idea.

I assume this should cover obsolete bugs as well (as in bugs which were not taken care of but got fixed from later upgrades). I have noticed in the past bug that have contiunued to be listed even though they were taken care of or were rendered obsolete.

Re: Bug Squashing Day

Yeah, this would include detecting obsoleted/fixed-but-unmarked-as-fixed bugs.  Anything to clean up the bug tracker would be nice wink

Depending on how organized it is, it may be good to tell an approximate time (UTC and/or GMT) when it will happen. The world isn't flat.

fluffy things are the most dangerous ones ;-)

... besides: you are particularly right - this beetle is only particularly harmfull - most plants can handle it

see e.g. here: http://www.regional.org.au/au/gcirc/3/243.htm

i only needed an image of a bug to illustrate the enemy for the BSD (bug squashing day)

Re: Bug Squashing Day

This is a week Sunday, or this coming Sunday?  February messes me up.
If most of the devs live in the Americas, it will be important for all the testers who live in the old world to post early, then the bug reports will all be ready and waiting when we silly Americans begin to stir in the early afternoon  wink  :glee:

how do you cancel a sunday? how do you cancel a day? erase it from the agenda and hope the rest of the world does the same?

removing days?

why not having a decimal week? 10 days? 4 days weekend - 6 days work

... or even a binary week? ;-)

Only 200 bugs or so, and most outdated from what I saw of it, so should be gone tomorrow. :-)

Re: Bug Squashing Day

That's what I'm doing now, finding bugs that can be closed. ;-)

Though no idea what to do with my short list of outdated bugs, nothing seems to happen in #archlinux. Perhaps too early yet?
