Intel WiFi issues: deauthenticating from X by local choice (dmesg log)

Hi all

Since I've upgraded to kernel 2.6.32 I'm having problems with keeping my wireless internet connection working. It just disconnects randomly.

It's a long code but it's easy to check the problem. I have all kind of errors there.
The acess point is using wpa2 aes encription, with wep and wpa the same appens.

These connection/disconnection are frequent and I can use the internet when connected. With windows everything is fine.
testing repo is ON and pc is updated. Arch linux x86_64 version.

Intel wifilink 5100
Wireless G access point. Same appens under others access points.
Asus G71V laptop.
Using WICD and good signal (90%, low noise).

Any ideas?

-> I can join any network without problems, but after 1 or 2 seconds of connectivity, the network conection dies! Im unable to ping or download anything but wicd still shows as connected.
while i was writing this I remember something. Long time ago alfa had an issue with signal strengh. It always chooses 54mbps and looses conectivity... hummmm I will check this out

Try doing it manually without wicd, and see what happens.

Humm, i've been testing and this looks to be something related to iwl power saving since this only happens when network is idle, if I ping something without stopping, everything works just fine.
wicd is not the problem.

I will do more testing at home this weekend

Unloading/loading 'iwlagn' does not solve the problem. And I have to reboot my laptop to regain wireless access. This is frustrating. More information would be appreciated!

Try inputting this in a terminal (with root permissions):

iwconfig wlan0 power off

Does the trick here.

Thanks for the workaround Crows. After upgrading the kernel I have had the same problem with ralink rt61 wireless.

I had to unload and then load the rt61pci module before entering the command - it can be fussy like that.

It seems to be the same bug here http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=694338. And there is a lot of threads with similar problems related with wifi and kernels up to 2.32.*. Can somebody post a unifed bug report?, including links to all this threads.

Unloading/loading 'iwlagn' does not solve the problem. And I have to reboot my laptop to regain wireless access. This is frustrating. More information would be appreciated!

Intel devs are asking for "iwlagn 0000:03:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000" confirms, so please respond to that report if you will. You may have to mention that you are using a 4965 card, which could be valuable information as it's originally submitted as a 5100/5300 report.
