I have this wifi chipset zd1112 and not to do .. iwconfig wlan0 essid JAZZTEL_2A put "***********" key and gives me Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A): SET failed on device wlan0; Invalid argument.
I put the command sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

Note: I have the base and devel packages sudo, wireless tools and zd1112
