I have a newly installed Arch system that freezes very often. The screen goes black and it doesnt despond to ping. I have to shut it down with the powerbutton.
I have run Memtest and it looks OK.
Where can I look to find whats wrong?
Its a Fujitsu-Siemens SFF computer with Intel graphics and a zd1211 wireless adapter. I'm runnning gdm and Gnome.
/Thanks

Read the various log files in /var/log and see what they say at, and right before, the freeze.

Did you configure kernel mode setting according to the Intel wiki?

My laptop makes trouble if I use X without KMS.

And after a powerbutton reboot I log in and leave the computer for a couple of minutes and it just feezes without no reason.

Still have the same problem. Could it be something with Intel graphics? Any ideas nwhat to check?

You could switch to the vesa graphics driver and see if you still get the freezes.
Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.

I did that but I didnt get the right resolution for my screen. But I will try that and see how that works.

That's expected. Vesa is not a solution - the point of using it is to see if your machines still freezes. If it does, video-intel is not the culprit.

I think I found the problem.
Ive set the screen to go black after 10min. But when I move the mouse to get image back on screen nothing happens. The screen stays black and I have to press the powerbutton.
I have now been running without putting the screen to sleep and it hasent froozen for over 24h now.
Any ideas?
