Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Just to state my interest in this project:

I got an ancient laptop with ubuntu. It was SLOW. Found crunchbang and it was faster smile Tried it for at least five minutes and liked it. I've been on arch for I don't know, one or two years now? Not long and I'm just a translator, no computer background whatsoever (read = dumb). Anyway, arch it had to be on the ancient laptop but I was completely ignorant as to what constitutes openbox.

The live CD obviously tries to emulate crunchbang and its sane settings. On the other hand a few things have already been established as being misanthropically stupid (read MS). The mono dependency, Christ on a bike!

Sooo, Archers being openbox top notch geeks it would be nice to get a decent mix of usability and geekness stuffed into (with time installable) CD. So far nobody has complained about the choice of panel although there appears to be a plentitude of them out there. I don't know about the default media player but it worked. Ideally one wants a minimum of dependencies with a maximum of usability.

Pidgin seems a great idea.

As Mr. Green said:

If you are only loading those packages and deps... 700mb for Arch + Openbox does seem a lot....

Ah, enough dribble, where is the folk in the know?

I am bugged with the display on -102!

Kudos for a nice USB Arch system and long and loud may it bang!!!!

willxtreme can you add a link to this thread in your sig please...

If required can clean up thread, after three or pages things get lost and information gets more difficult to find

Also keep the updated version info on the first post. Is the wiki entry already created?

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Running Archbang under Virtualbox now nice!

Could you use Archsetup as an installer... ???? GUI is fine and dandy but its not the Arch way

Just a thought

May I suggest a nice looking XDM instead of SLiM? More lightweight and visually as appealing. There might be problems with non-standard resolutions though, if I understand correctly. But SLiM appears to be unmaintained.

I agree about xdm as well. Even though it is your own project, Archers love the idea of KISS and " The Arch Way" so we would appreciate it. wink Just a thought, end decision is yours.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Need advice on how to enable USB audio.

F6 is provided in the 103 version but audio does not perform in either of two modes.

Also did not get USB audio in 102 version.

Perhaps a daemon?

Sounds like a corrupt download.

BTW my dd to USB took 17 secs!

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Allright noted big_smile well I think as well that we don't need a login manager for a LIVE CD lol. I don't even use one for my personal computer since I'm the only user & I like the inittab tweak. For when an installer will be available though, if I do include a login manager it'll be xdm rather than slim big_smile (I said slim by default but I don't even use slim lol)

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

gotcha
Allright here's everything that's going on in my head related to "ArchBang" only because there's so many lol:
-http://rudd-o.com/en/linux-and-free-software/a-better-way-to-create-a-customized-ubuntu-live-usb-drive (might be handy for people wanting to install it already)
-build scripts on git or svn (well I'll try to make a wiki page that explains everything I've done)
-wiki (it's coming pretty soon)
-squashfs+lzma for better ISO compression (must see how to do it)
-xdm instead of slim (if we add a login manager)
-64 bit version vs kernel with pae
-torrent for ArchBang (Vicophine)
-a darker default wallpaper preferred (it makes the battery lasts longer)
-catfish (very handy!)
-rtorrent instead of deluge tongue
-more CLI apps (we'll see if it fits)
-addons for firefox (the most handy ones)
-including nvidia proprietary drivers now that I know how to detect if the PC has a nvidia card installed thanks to sHyLoCk big_smile
-check archsetup as an installer

You can always remove the equivalent GUI apps to make room big_smile

aye! In fact when you create  an installer it's gonna need a bit more room to fit. We can always install what we like later on. Create shortcuts to xterm -e "cli apps" to shade off weight:P
