If you are using startx or slim to start X:
change your xinitrc to
exec ck-launch-session YOURWMHERE

Forgot to mention that I'm on Openbox and if I replace exec openbox-session with something else, it doesn't start at all or ignores the configuration file.
Any other thoughts ? I can mount the drive from the command prompt but as soon as there is anything related to file managers and stuff like that, it fails.
Edit: problem solved ( misinterpreted the second part of your command )
exec ck-launch-session openbox-session
