Hey there,
I can't seem to get my sound card working under Arch.
I have installed alsa and alsautils, and am using alsamixer to configure my sound.
However, even when I unmute the Master, Master M, and PCM channels, I still get no sound coming out of my card.
It is a VIA 8235 card with a VIA Technologies 1612A chipset.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Ok, I got the sound working, for the most part anyway
My main problem now is that whenever I change the song in gnome-mplayer, or make any changes whatsoever, my PCM ouput is muted, and I have to go back into alsamixer and unmute it.
Any ideas?

Is your user in the sound group?
Try:
sudo gpasswd -a yournonrootuser audio

You might want to reconfigure your /etc/asound.state file by using "alsactl store" with the current alsa settings you have because I notice gnome-mplayer has a tendency to fall back to that previous configuration even with adjustment to alsamixer.

Alright, I followed your advice regarding alsactl.
Here is what happens, gnome-mplayer still mutes the PCM and lowers the volume of PCM to zero when starting a new song.
I used alsactl to store my alsamixer settings, and then can be reloaded by just using the alsactl restore command.
However, I still have to do this everytime I change the song.
Is there anyway to load this command on change with the song or something like that?
