Trying to install gnome = Gnome package not found. Please help.

Hi, I have just installed Arch Linux on one of my computers. I have my computer wired to the network and tested my connection with this command:

"ping -c 3 www.google.com"

--- www.l.google.com ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 recieved, 0%packet loss.,....... and so on....

So now I want to install gnome.
I type in this command:

"pacman -S gnome"

Then there comes an error:

"gnome package not found, searching for group...
error: 'gnome': not found in sync db"

What is the problem? I tried typing xorg instead of gnome but the same error occurs.

Can someone here help me with my problem? Is it my internet connection?

Thanks in advance for replies.

You have to run pacman -Syu one time first.

.

You will need to install xorg as well as gnome.  Have you uncommented a mirror in pacman.conf?

Re: Trying to install gnome = Gnome package not found. Please help.

went into mirror list and uncommented the servers. For some reason they where all commented? Probably my fault.
I am now installing gnome as we speak.

Thanks for the help guys.

Tried installing xorg but when it is executing it asks if it shall remove "e2fsprogs" when I type yes it results in this:

util-linux-ng conflicts with e2fsprogs. Remove e2sprogs? [Y/N]
"error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)"

I have installed Gnome, Xorg and GDM. Everytime I start gdm, there comes a black screen with a white underline at the top left corner. How can i fix this? And yes, I have looked at the beginners guide.
