Weird DD behavior

Hey

I've installed ARCH64 about two months ago (after using i686 for several years).

All works like a charm except this -

I often backup my USB disk to my HD, and restore it afterwards.

Backup: dd if=/dev/sdb of=./bakfile
Restore: dd if=./bakfile of=/dev/sdb

When trying to restore on ARCH64, the operation never ends (even after a few hours).
When trying to restore under Archi686, it takes a couple of minutes (its a 2GB usb drive).

I do both operations as root.

Any clues?
