Starting out with WMII, questions...[SOLVED]

I've installed WMII on both my computers. It's working well on my sabayon box, but on my arch netbook, it's not showing in the KDM menu.

The other thingg I want to query is trransparency. Do I need xcompmgr, or do I just edit my .wmiirc?

Aside from that, I'm loving tiling thus far smile

Re: Starting out with WMII, questions...[SOLVED]

This is what I have now:

/usr/share/xsessions/wmii.desktop

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Type=XSession
Exec=wmii
TryExec=wmiiwm
Name=wmii
Comment=window manager improved 2

line 281 of /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc:

SessionsDirs=/usr/share/config/kdm/sessions,/usr/share/apps/kdm/sessions,/usr/share/xsessions,/etc/X11/sessions

after doing that, KDE with openbox shows in my KDM, but still no wmii

Re: Starting out with WMII, questions...[SOLVED]

It looks there's a line wrong in wmii.desktop in the Arch package. It should be:

TryExec=wmii

Re: Starting out with WMII, questions...[SOLVED]

Could you please file a bug report agains wmii?

It seems some WMs put their .desktop file in /etc/X11/sessions and some put it in /usr/share/xsessions.

$ ls /etc/X11/sessions
evilwm.desktop  kde-safe.desktop  ratpoison.desktop
kde.desktop     pekwm.desktop     xmonad.desktop

$ ls /usr/share/xsessions/
awesome.desktop  openbox.desktop        openbox-kde.desktop  wmfs.desktop
i3.desktop       openbox-gnome.desktop  scrotwm.desktop      wmii.desktop

Shouldn't this be standardized?

Sure I'll have to search the wiki for instructions on filing one, but I will.

I agree that it should be standardised.
