Re: Firefox and Chrom not starting after update

Run konsole, start firefox from there and see if an error message helps.

Re: Firefox and Chrom not starting after update

research it well since fixing chrome will fix firefox since the problems are related. i'll bet that is a libpng thingy and you have other cairo package and you should recompile yourself to link to libpng 14

Re: Firefox and Chrom not starting after update

firefox doesn't start for me either... i have no cairo-lcd installed and there's also no console output when trying to start firefox in a terminal. it simply doesn't start.

Re: Firefox and Chrom not starting after update

Hi.

I have the same problems with Firefox and Thunderbird.

Starting Firefox from the console will neither start up Firefox nor will it produce any warning or error messages.

But, Firefox will start up in safe mode using option -safe-mode.

After closing the safe-mode instance, Firefox will start up in normal mode but only one time.

Closing the normal mode instance of Firefox and it will not start up again.

Re: Firefox and Chrom not starting after update

1. simplify the desktop environment (twm, fluxbox, openbox, ...)
2. create a new user
If firefox still doesn't start:
3. strace -o dump /usr/bin/firefox
and then check dump to see where it got stuck

Re: Firefox and Chrom not starting after update

For chrome, installing libpng12 from AUR may solve. Works for me.

Re: Firefox and Chrom not starting after update

I had this same problem, though not with just Firefox and Chrome so I reinstalled the entire system using yaourt

sudo pacman -Qqe > pkglist
sudo yaourt -S --noconfirm $(cat pkglist)

Now everything is working again

Re: Firefox and Chrom not starting after update

@m7d1 you don't say if you use firefox from repos or not,  but i'm assuming you are using some builds from aur.
unsupported packages have to be rebuilt as for chrome, get rid of it and use chromium from extra.

Re: Firefox and Chrom not starting after update

@m7d1 you are the first person who said that chromium from extra is not link correctly. something is fishy on your system.

I've exactly the same issue, it works if i disable gmail notifier and greasemonkey extensions.
Funny thing is that at home (where i use kdemod) it works.
At work (using kde4 from archlinux) it wont load with those extensions enabled.

Another strange thing is that when it works (only the first time after i enabled the extensions, like manalishi said) gmail notifier notification window appear as usual on kde4, while at home (kdemod4) it uses kde notification system.

I was unable to trace down the error using strace or even starting with a clean profile.
Trying with a different user works, i even tried to bisect the problem with my default user, but no success.

Re: Firefox and Chrom not starting after update

Hi.

In my case, the following firefox add-ons cause the trouble: Echofon and Startup Master. The second one is a possible candidate for thunderbird.

Just to clarify further, in my previous post I didn't mention that I'm using chromium-browser-bin from AUR and not the one from /extra. Hence I have no idea if there's an issue there in the first place. However if you are using any AUR package for chromium, libpng12 will be needed!
