Boot line to force booting with vesa/xvesa driver?

Is there a grub kernel line option to force booting with the vesa driver both console and X? This is for a bootable flash drive where I have multiple video drivers installed, no xorg.conf, and boot on some machines with 'issues' w/ the normal <points finger at intel> driver for that machine.

I tried the xforcevesa option, but that must only be for ubuntu, 'cause it didn't work.

Any ideas?
