qtcurve-kde3 issues with gtk2 apps

updating from qtcurve ver 0.68.1-1 to qtcurve ver 1.0 prevents gtk2 (or these that use qtcurve theme) apps from starting
I narrowed problem to qtcurve-kde3

after installing latest qtcurve, apps (firefox, openoffice, thunderbird) generate the following error:

1) firefox 3.6-2
QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty
QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty
firefox: symbol lookup error: /opt/kde/lib/kde3/plugins/styles/qtcurve.so: undefined symbol: _ZN13KStandardDirs7makeDirERK7QStringi

2) openoffice-base-devel 3.3_dev300_m70-1
** (soffice:30956): WARNING **: unable to get gail version number
/usr/lib/openoffice-dev/program/soffice-dev.bin: symbol lookup error: /opt/kde/lib/kde3/plugins/styles/qtcurve.so: undefined symbol: _ZN13KStandardDirs7makeDirERK7QStringi

without qtcurve, gtk2 apps start but look awful, with qtcurve 0.68.1-1 apps srart and look fine.

My system
Arch i686 up-to-date
kdemod 4.3 up-to-date

I tried to build qtcurve 1.0 from abs but this tid not help at all.

I assume that I am the only one with this problem (have not seen any complaints), any suggestions?

thanks
