I just accidently deleted aprox 30gig or 74 files of old collected tv-series  , is there an easy way of recovering these files? I'm using the default reiserfs in arc 0.7
Thanks.
Edit : I did search on google and reiserfs homepage, but couldnt find any relevant info. Is it even possible to recover files on a reiserfs disk?

you probably need disk recovery tools. I don't believe reiser, or any other filesystem, stores undelete infromation, you have to snag it off the drive itself..
search google for disk recovery tools..and stop using the drive!! that you want to recover things from...

I've been googling for a while now, but all the solutions I find does only support Ext2FS. Is it possible to convert from reiserfs to ext2fs and then recover the deleted files? Will the convert prosess blank all free space (deletet files)?
The files I try to recover is on my store drive and has nothing to do with the rest of the system.

results of a quick google search. I cannot guarantee good things, but a cursory look at them seemed promising.

Ah, I'll try following those articles when I get home from work and report back

Just about the only thing you can do is the rebuild tree option. apart from that, when you delete a file from a reiser partition, its gone.
make sure you backup before using rebuild tree - if you've written at all to the partition since, your chances of recovery are much slimmer.

I was copying some files to the drive when I deleted those files, I think 3 files 350mb each after the files was gone. but shouldnt those files only destroy at most 4 of the deleted files? Most of of the deleted files was the same size. And as for backup, I'm not shure if I can backup all, its 110gig left on the drive.

Hmm, something is wrong, here is what I did.
umount /dev/discs/disc1/part1
reiserfsck --rebuild-tree -S -l /root/recovery.log /dev/discs/disc1/part1
Following this http://www.antrix.net/journal/techtalk/ … howto.html
This is on a 160gig partition with 110gig of files and 30gig deletet files, the command is finnished in no time and the /root/recovery.log is empty.
Am I doing something wrong here or are the files gone forever  .

when it asks you for confirmation you must type: Yes
It is case sensitive and it must be spelled out, otherwise it exits without error warnings.

Ah, thanks, I typed yes not Yes  .
Its working now, seems like its gonna take awhile, I'll let you know how it went when its done

OMG
It recovered 67 of the 74 files, naming them correct and put them into the correct folders while keeping all of the other files files intact., the last 7 files I found in the lost+found folder.
Thanks for all the help ppl
