I have posted here yesterday with this problem but I did make a slight breakthrough even though I am still stuck. Here is what happened.
I was not able to type when I started X. I could move mouse but no keyboard. Now I can use the keyboard in the startx window. Great that means when I reboot I can now login at the KDE window. Not so. I still cannot type.
The other strange thing is if I login console form the KDE login screen I cannot edit any files. I thought my xorg.conf file was empty, but so is the backup and for that matter any other file I nano. The only way I can get back to being able to edit the files is to generate an xorg.conf file that I know will not work, reboot and start again tweaking.
Am I doing something ridiculous here? Its doing my nut in. I think I am nearly there.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance

Shot in the dark here , do you precede that with sudo ? Or are you root ?
[wesley@ratdog ~]$ sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

As I understand it, your keyboard only worked in X for one boot - and when you rebooted it did not work in KDE. Did you perhaps start hal manually and not add it to your rc.conf? If so, your keyboard would only work in X until the next boot.
(and any file you open with nano that you do not have sufficient privileges to read will appear blank)

Can you post your xorg.conf and rc.conf?

I had a very similar situation this week, i just booted my pc like normal and the only one key in the keyboard wasn't working, every other worked, i reboted, tried the same key on windows and it worked, rebooted to arch and everything was fine again.
I don't think it was stuck because i didn't do anyting besides rebooting...
It was strange, but never crossed with the problem again...
Dunno what happened.
