This is the 1st time using Arch in a GUI (Gnome) & I did a Google / Wiki search for how to be able to play / watch DVDs on my Arch workstation? I have everything working and I have 'Totem' or as it's called "Movie Player" however I can't play or watch commercially purchased DVDs. Does anyone have any tips?

Do you have libdvdcss installed?

I always just install VLC, it seems to come with all that's needed to play anything (including DVDs) plus it looks & works fine on any DE/WM I used it on, even Windows
edit: Oh no I tell a lie, you still need to install libdvdcss. I just installed Arch like on 3 different machines this week with DVD playback and still managed to forget :-o

pacman -S smplayer
smplayer uses mplayer, and mplayer is awesome. you don't need libdvdcss either.
the problem with smplayer for you (because you use gnome) is that it requires Qt, but if that's not a problem for you then i would highly recommend using smplayer!
or you could of course just forget about smplayer and launch mplayer from the command line or use the default GUI that comes with mplayer (which sucks in my opinion).

I don't think mplayer comes with a default gui anymore. The mplayer package is run from the command line.
You can also try gnome-mplayer.

You also could just search the forums or the wiki. Searching the wiki for DVD results in this:

and you would find a solution faster than waiting for someone to respond to this question.

Gnome-mplayer and Vlc get my votes (always install libdvdcss anyway).
Vlc seems the best for commercial DVDs, but I need Gnome-mplayer to also play .amv files.
