Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

An observation concerning the latest libjpeg and libpng upgrades to many packages.

I assume that downloading via pacman for many programs using the new changes will be incompatible with the existing ArchBang packages (in some areas).  Unless the -104 ArchBang includes the upgrades.

Maybe true maybe not?

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Yes 1.04 will have new upgrades.
Added a small entry to wiki, I believe this is enough for now? Feel free to edit.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Shylock;

Thanks for the encouraging words.

Perhaps I am wrong, again!, but I do not see a five second wait during the boot sequence to allow USB devices to settle.

I have examined dmesg and also watched the sequence run by and there is no pause for USB AFAICT.

In my machine, there is a 23 second delay for floppy disk which I do not have in my system...there is a connector but it isn't connected to anything.

This would explain my inability to get repeatable performance from my USB audio.EDIT:  The lack of 5 second delay, that is...............

I will study the wiki and surely appreciate the support you have given to this project.  My x86_64 runs but has the aforementioned problems and also the i686 version has the same.

Hoping to have a persistent system by my 85th birthday in August.

Mahalo....

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

I'll try:
MODULES=(!floppy !fd0)

Working on it, and will see the usbdelay issue.

smbclient

Package size of gimp is 17mb installed size is 57mb would it be better to load gimp from package after Archbang has booted up?

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Gparted, which is essential for our installer. The installer may not be ready for 1.04 which we are working with priority to making it more lighter. So we'll need more time to work on the installer scripts.

Why have both netcfg and wicd?

Removed.

Which one? I didn't suggest you need to remove both.

netcfg has been removed. It was a "backup solution" in case wicd caused issues but wicd is doing good big_smile

New page please

I do not like comparing distros/livecds but Knoppix had full KDE and then some what on earth is making Archbang so large????

Knoppix has -dev packages :/

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

ArchBang 1.04 is out in the wild both 32bit & 64bit versions! big_smile:D
Please check your ISO's md5sum
1786095522010020412652848461280x800scrot.png
Changes:
-We went "lite mode" by stripping off packages so the iso just 445MB
-Floppy disabled in modules
-USB delay changed from 5 to 8
-Chromium instead of Firefox
-New look
-Added Centerim & irssi & catfish & parcellite
-leafpad instead of gedit

ENJOYYYYYYYYY and give us your feedback!

For the next releases:
-An installer
-Your comments will help us see what else could be improved

And there's now a wiki entry big_smile

Being a former #! user and having switched to Arch meanwhile, I love the idea of Archbang. Thanks to Will and everyone who helped !!!
This will go to my harddrive as soon as the installer is finished.

When downloaded the size is 721.4 MB. An added advantage if this is persistent to carry with usb disk.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Since you're going the super lightweight way (irssi and centerim) why not trim off Thunar and File-Roller too? Just put vifm and vim. vim can browse archives
