try modules="... ext3 ext4" in /etc/mkinitcpio (line 7) and
mkinitcpio -p kernel26
Didn't work.
I'm also noticing another small error before the one that drops me into ramfs$, it says
:: Loading udev....error binding control socket, seems udevd is already running
I tried leaving udevd at version 146 and both the one previous and current kernel and it still won't boot.

From the chroot can you run pacman -Syu? It's possible that a version mismatch with udev/initscripts/mkinitcpio caused this.

Thats an unrelated error. Its harmless dont worry about it.
Just thought Id drop my two cents in on that one...

Boot up arch fallback but if that doesn't work download and compile the last kernel that worked for you(prolly 2.6.32-5)

I think I'm hosed here. Reverted to old udev, kernel 2.6.32.5-1 and still the same boot error. I'm going to try to recover my mysql database and maybe have to reinstall everything again arhhh. I think Arch is a little too bleeding edge for a business system though. The upgrades aren't tested thoroughly enough for stable use...
