Search engine for documents on a server?

Hello,

On my home server I have a large collection of documents (web pages, PDFs, text files etc...) I saved along those years.

Now I would like to know if anybody can recommend a program that can serve as a "search engine" for them. Something like Google Desktop or Beagle (i.e. must be able to search text within PDF or DOC files), but that can work over a network (preferrably accessible from a browser).

Any suggestions?

Why a server specific search-engine? If you mount the server as a (sshfs/smb/nfs) share you can just let your desktop searchengine index it like regular drive.

probably because that solution does not work from any computer, whereas a server side search app would.
