Hello everyone,
I am considering purchasing a Asus eee 900a model for budget and spec reasons; I have read overall good reviews about this machine besides some battery issues. Does anyone out there own the 900a model and are using Arch? If so, how is it working out for you? any input will be greatly appreciated - any mature and constructive input.

The arch wiki has an excellent, if somewhat dated wiki page on the EEE900. AFAIK, the 900 and the 900a are quite similar in hardware, except the 900a has an atom.
And yes, battery life IS horrible. Utterly.
There is a megathread on the 900 and the 900a with much information on configuration. It should solve most problems.

Not exactly the feedback you asked for, but as you haven't put your money down yet: the 901 is a great machine - batttery life is OK (I average around 3.5 hours - but I have a second battery for use on the road). Evrything works great on the stock kernel, and it was very straightforward to set up.

A few additional tips:
- Use toofishes' EEE kernel. It is bloody fast! See the wiki for information.
- Use the AUR package acpi-eee-generic. It is a unified set of scripts for the eeepc series. It handles most (if not: all) ACPI events and works almost out of the box.
- Have fun. Booting arch in 6 seconds on a measly Celeron 900 (I do not have the 900a) kicks major um backside.

Thanks for that kernel tip Joachim. This 901 machine looks very promising; speaking of which, do you or anyone know of any good netbook markets online? The 901 has been a harder search than the 900a: the only one I found was 750 bucks. I already had someone direct me to Amazon but .... ehhhh (i checked either way and the 901 is currently out of stock).

Those are my two cents:
I bought my EEEpc (1005ha) on eBay combined with a really cheap mobile-treaty.
So, I pay 10 EUR per month over a period of 24 months, and got an NetBook that costs on the free market definitely more than 240 bucks for 1 EUR..
IMO the best way to get good hardware ^^
And BTW, I warmly recommend the EEEpc to you. Its really a great device.
So far...

I also recommend the 1005HA, I guess you can pick it up for about 250 euros. It works great with Arch as well!
