cd/dvd drive weird behavior?

my CD/DVD drive doesn't eject when i press the button on the drive IF a DVD movie is in(haven't tried data dvd) and i have to use the eject command or eject through nautilus. however if the drive if empty or a data CD is in i can press the button on the drive and it automatically unmounts and the drive ejects. i use HAL(i think anyways....) to manage  my removable drives and not /etc/fstab
this isn't that big of a deal just i would like to know why it does that and if it's possible to fix

Re: cd/dvd drive weird behavior?

Just guessing: if you have a DVD in the drive, it is automatically mounting when you close the tray. Then the system will refuse to open the tray as long as it is mounted. The eject command (and nautilus) are smart enough to attempt to unmount first. Pressing the eject button triggers an event that leads to some function trying to eject directly, which fails.

You could check dmesg and mount -l if you are curious.

Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.
