What's the best GENERAL Linux forum?

Naturally, the best distro forum is right here, but where do people go for general Linux questions, discussion, kernel topics, etc? I drop into LinuxQuestions and LinuxForums every now and then - anyone have other recommendations?

I'd say that the Linux Discussion forum within AL forums are pretty darn good. But I would say that, wouldn't i?  wink

What's your Linux question?

Re: What's the best GENERAL Linux forum?

Well, that's the problem - it's a distro-neutral kernel question, and I have already asked it here, with only one response, which did not apply in my case.

Thanks for your interest - if you have any suggestions, that would be great.

Have you tried the Usenet newsgroups. There are plenty of Linux related groups. I expect they get plenty of readers who will know their stuff.

Problem solved - and right here, in the Arch forum, in the original thread.

I love this place........

Re: What's the best GENERAL Linux forum?

I like "linuxquestions" and "linuxforums"too, but they take more hits than a bloody Jerry Cooney in the ring.  I normally wait 15 seconds for either of them to render, then I hit the back button in frustration.

Personally, I like to bleed the "Gentoo" forums and "LFS" mailing lists dry for information.

If you're a brain surgeon and like poking sticks at your Linux box, try the "Linux kernel mailing list" (lkml.org).

Those are the best for information in my dumb opinion.  For anything else, the OT Arch forum is the oasis in the desert.  Get over there sometime and make a fool of yourself like me.  It offers more "therapy" than a squishy hand ball, and gives more insight than "Nostradamus"...

I need no help on that front.  I used the restroom at the grocery store yesterday, came out and wandered aimlessly through the produce section for about 10 minutes, gave a few "hellos", dropped a kiwi in my basket, and finally noticed my yellow shirt poking through my pant zipper.  It was too late at that point to make ammends.  I just put on my shades, walked to the register, stood in line, gave a few stares back, checked out, and walked calm and cooly back to my car.  Hands intact and never leaving the basket once...

A fool? yes. But, a damn cool fool at that...

My recommendation Dusty, do like me...put your sunglasses on when you type in these forums.  It won't seem so bad after you hit "submit"...

"Used to be" is right. I just dropped in there, for old time's sake, and the place is plastered with extremely annoying flashing M$ banner ads! FFS...

They have always had those flashing MS ads. Well except for about the first three months three years ago that I was there.

Despite the ads there are competent teenagers over there that should be able to answer most questions. Just don't expect mature OT topics.

Re: What's the best GENERAL Linux forum?

I'm not a big user of OT forums anywhere, so that shouldn't be a problem.

And teenagers know everything, don't they?  wink

Maybe I can tolerate the banners so.......

You can go on the Gentoo forums. It has an awesome number of users and they have some kernel devs sometimes answering.

Re: What's the best GENERAL Linux forum?

If I'm looking for something non-arch specific, I usually go for the gentoo forums, since they have covered every problem out there (+ a few more), and they usually have a solution that can be translated from gentoo-user-stupidity to common language... smile
