i mean, wtf?  I posted about this in the -as adoption thread a while back but it got lost in the plague.  why adopt a security fix patcheset as standard and then not keep up to date with it?

it defeats the point surely!?

I've been to a talk of Alan Cox on FOSDEM 2005 about the kernel development. If you want to have the latest and greatest kernel with all security fixes, you should run the 2.6 -ac branch. He doesn't keep backported versions, but only works with the latest kernel branch and patches that one for security and reliability.
The -as series we're using is somewhat the same, but with one difference: it's meant to be a 2.6.10 kernel with all backports of security issues to keep a stable kernel that doesn't change between releases.
