Sony Vaio VGN-NS21Z: brightness issues

Hi all!
Scenario: Arch Linux and laptop Sony Vaio VGN-NS21Z.
I've installed Arch on my virtual machine, just to make some tests before switching to this distribution.
After installing the ice kernel, I noticed something strange that later on convinced me to not switch to Arch, even though I know it's an issue not directly related to this distro.
In a nutshell: I used to set the brightness with this command:

echo "5" > /sys/class/backlight/sony/brightness

Now, there's nothing similar because, as far as I know, all Linux kernels from 2.6.32.* on don't create the directory /sys/class/backlight/sony/.
In 2.6.32 kernel config there's a significant module, though, sony_laptop.
I've loaded it, of course, but nothing changed.
It all seems strange to me: are we talking about a bug or has it been implemented a new feature to handle the brightness?
Thanks in advance,

Burroughs from Italy.
