Hello everybody,
I'm a little bit confused. I recently discovered AUR and yaourt (pkgbuilding all dependencies for bin32-wine drove me up the wall) for myself. Now I also installed virtualbox from the Arch User Repositories, but today as I invoked "yaourt -Syu --aur" told me that virtualbox (3.1.2) was out of date.Now I searched for Virtual box in the AU Repositories and I found the following 4 packages:
-virtualbox_bin-3_0 (Version; 3.1.4-1)
-virtualbox_bin (Version 3.1.2-2 - that's the version I've got installed) flagged out of date
-virtualbox_bin_beta (Version 3.1.4-1)
-virtualbox-sun (3.1.4.-57640-1)
Now what am I gonna do? Since I don't need state-of-the-art super-duper Virtualizing, but it always safer to use the newest stable version. All packages aside from virtualbox_bin are orphaned. Will there be an update for this version or do I have to switch to one of the other packages?
Greetings from good ol' Germany,
Patrick

I've sent a mail on the aur-general mailing list in order to clean up the virtualbox PKGBUILDs, but nobody answered ...

virtualbox_bin-3_0 should stay at 3.0.x version but who did updated didn't understand this thing.
virtualbox_bin should follow the latest version of virtualbox
virtualbox_bin_beta should follow only beta but same as first, the current maintainer didn't get it.
virtualbox-sun is basically _bin and changes should merge to _bin and then we can delete it.
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

I also have my own https://users.archlinux.de/~pierre/pack … irtualbox/ :-)

1. wait for the maintainer to update the PKGBUILD
I'll do that. Thanks.
2. DIY, just change these lines in PKGBUILD
pkgver="3.1.4"
_build="57640"
Nah, I don't want to fiddle around with that. I know my luck, I'll manage to break my package manager,,, (Sorry, I have bad experiences with emerge )
3. check out packer , packer > yaourt
I will take a look at that later. With every day I love Arch and it's community more
Edit:
virtualbox_bin should follow the latest version of virtualbox
Cool, then I'm already with the right package and just have to wait for the maintainer
