Accessing a windows share via Gnome

Hi All,

I'm a Debian user new to Arch, really enjoying getting to know Linux from a ground-up install, and have had no real problems so far, however this one has me confused:

Smbclient is installed.

On my Debian box I can access my windows shares via Gnome's 'places>network' method, however on my Arch install I can only see the workgroup (as opposed to the windows box which usually also shows.) Connecting directly to the windows box fails, complaining that it has nowhere to mount the share. My conclusion is I'm missing something in a .conf file somewhere, but I'm not sure what. In summary there's two things happening here:

1)The Workgroup, but not the windows share, is visible. Accessing the workgroup results in a repeating credentials dialogue box which hasn't accepted any windows credentials thus far.

2) There's no mount point for the share if I try and connect directly.

Obviously it's possible to do it the long way, but I'd like this functionality if I can get it.

Cheers

J

Re: Accessing a windows share via Gnome

I always use konqueror to access Windows Shares since I'm a long time KDE user.
If you've never tried a recent version of KDE, you should try it.
Sorry, but I know very little about gnome, other than I've tried it a few times, and decided it wasn't for me.
