I haven't upgraded for more than a month and i did it tonight..After a reboot i see the message 'The superblock could not be read..' and so on.It says there is no a valid ext2 system but in fact mine is ext3 and that's how it's marked in the fstab. When I try to fdisk -l i see nothing..Everything was perfect before the ugprade..where could be the problem?

Have you tried an fsck from the livecd?

Could you give the fsck disk?
Well, fdisk -l doesnt detect anything. When i remove te 0 1 tags of the root partition in fstab i can boot successfully but i looks as if it can't load some modules. However, i use my own kernel and i updated the gcc as well as everything else and .. I guess it's something related to the fact that i didn't recompile the kernel after the upgrade?

Ok..it seemed that the udev and kernel version less than 2.6.27 are not compatible anymore.I finally did manage to boot however fdisk -l says i have no partitions. So does cfdisk. However, I have a root mounted partition..Any ideas?
EDIT- I have no /dev/sd* or /dev/hd* devices in my /dev however i have /dev/hda6 mounted as a root..?!

Please, excuse me.I'll try again. After a few hours of readin through google i found out that kernel version older than 2.6.27 is incompatible with the latest glibc.Consequently i updated the kernel to 2.6.32 and i tried again. The result was the same i couldn't boot and the errors was : http://pastebin.com/m7e3da403 .Then i edited my fstab (which looks like this : http://pastebin.com/m48381f91 ) and the change was that i disabled the fs check on bootup. Finally i booted up successfully but when i try to access my /dev/sd* or /dev/hd* they are gone. When i type 'fdisk -l' there is no output. As well as that cfdisk can't open the partitions. However, I'm writing from the same box which seems to have no partitions.I can't understand what's going on as i haven't touch anything.I hope it's more understandable now.
