Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

USB report:

When booting into Ctk x86_64, I use an executable file in a USB flash device to establish a raid) array, install VLC via pacman -Ud, and establish wicd wired-settings as well as restart wicd.

When utilizing such an arrangement, without the VLC install, there is no USB audio in any sound/video related app.

With the vlc install by pacman, usb audio is present in all sound and video apps.

However, this method doesn't do the same in ArchBang.

At present, I do not know what package dependency enables USB in Ctk.  There are around 27 packages in the vlc install file.

Usb audio  in Ctk is available in root mode or user mode with this procedure.

Behavior of the ArchBang system indicates a problem with udev and alsa since a "guess" method is used to identify sound devices.

Hoping that the problem with archiso is resolved soon.

Strange things are happening with mkinitcpio change.

One consideration with regard to the USB in Ctk is that the executed file is done in root mode.  Thus the vlc packages installed override the corresponding packages already present in the Ctk OS as well as install VLC.  Smplayer audio is also usb enabled with the executable install.

If it were a vlc version problem, which it can't be because vlc is not in Ctk.

Never give up!

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Apology for the misinformation about Ctk and usb audio.  I became confused while attempting to address both Ctk and ArchBang.

The actual USB performance reported was the result of additional entries in the executable to set up .asoundrc in the Ctk home directory to effect a change in sound devices.  The procedure was tested in both systems and confusion resulted so I forget it was included!

It did fix the usb audio problem in Ctk but not in ArchBang.

The same idea should work in ArchBang but probably addressed elsewhere
.

Sorry for the oops!

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Righto!  The same .asoundrc default file can be used but it is placed in ArchBang in .../Home/Live.  This produces usb audio in user mode.

The alsa system provides but is hard to decipher.......................

Pleased that there is no need to change anything in the .iso.

Have a great day!

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

@sHyLoCk
I got the archbang build with my build scripts. It looks good so far. I have it at 354mb iso size with all the video drivers and a auto detection package from chakra project. I also looking at adding ob-pippe-menu so you don't have to edit the menu.xml for everything.

I'm also planing on uploading a archbang profile based on my scripts soon. I hope this helps.

EDIT: I'm going to be using a xdg-menu.py script that is part of fedora project. I found it here. I just think this will make it more of a desktop then just a livecd with this script add to menu. It will also help if archbang ever gets based on my scripts. There will be no need to edit overlay to add a new module/program to the menu.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Lo and Behold!...I am retarded...because I don't know everything there is to know!!!!

When I utilize root terminal in ArchBang I am able to setup a Raid array, install a root based vlc package, enter an .asoundrc text file into home and enter wicd static IP data in one  "swell foop".  This enables the raid array, opens internet access and establishes usb audio.

After performing any operation in root terminal, I find it not possible to return to user mode wherein the "super" keys are active.  (root is "super" but doesn't act like it).

So I am retarded....don't know how to revert back to "Live" user mode.

I am assuming that the changes made as root are available for use by the user?

Is this a permissions problem?  Or is the overlay involved?

EDIT:  Attempts to perform the same in i686 version of ArchBang gave good results and was able to return to user mode and changes made appear to be universal.  The usb audio is enabled in the i686 version by installing the .asoundrc file into .../home/live, via root terminal.

Thus the problem  of returning to user mode is related to the x86_64 version.  The same difficulty in returning to user mode is encountered in Ctk x86_64 version.

EDIT2:  Perhaps the problem disappears if I dont not use pacman -U....Removed same from the mix and am testing that possibility.

EDIT3:  It seems that the pacman -U entry removal solved the difficulties in both Ctk and ArchBang.

godane

I'm getting this error:

>>> Installing root image
FATAL: Module aufs not found.
!!! Error loading Union filesystem module. (aufs)

I'm emailing you our tarred configs for 105 , see if it works for you. wink Ofcourse it's not final. A few things like shift to pcmanfm from thunar is causing wallpaper display problems. But right now our main priority is to get it to boot! Lol.

An AB profile would be nice. smile
We are also testing AB105 with larch and archiso.

Btw, thanks for your support. smile

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

@sHyLoCk
I just upload my archbang profile into my testing repo. I didn't add the themes and icons cause i don't want my git repo to be bloated. I only keep the default wallpaper in my repo. I use Clearlooks and Tango icon theme mostly cause i like the look.

I hope this helps.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

Looks amazing, and works like a charm at the first go (x86_64).

But - the fact that I can't use it as a live updating installation (meaning, can't add packages, edit config files, etc.)
after the first install is keeping me from switching from larch to archbang.

Is there some way to enjoy both worlds - archbang as a live updating system? some way to larchify the installation?

thanks a lot for the great work!

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

you can update archbang using pacman, persistence would be the next logical step for usbkey users... the guys are working on an installer at the moment for 1.05

do personally think that some way of creating your own archbang system would be a big help, that would mean any app a user wants to add remove feature look etc could be built in ...

not too mention keeping system up to date

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

@Mr. Green
I have persistence with my archiso-live build scripts. I also have xdg-menu.py so you can added programs without editing the menu for most apps that have a .desktop file.

My persistence works like slax changes boot option does. Here is the slax doc page for cheat codes. I think the password and autoexec boot options will not work but the rest should work just like in slax.

I hope this helps.

@Mr Green
You should try the 20100114 release then. I didn't added pae until this month so that one should work fine.

Re: ArchBang 2.00 RC1

@Mr Green
Only use the safe graphics menu option with virtualbox. Virtualbox doesn't like chakra-hardware-detection package. Only works with vesa driver.
