Re: some questions..

Hi cobra11,

First of all read this article: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners%27_Guide
You don't need to install drivers separately, the kernel contains them (okay, in some cases, e.g. some wireless cards you have to use ndiswrapper to install windows driver).
If you read through the link above, you will know how to install arch and how to install a desktop enviroment / window manager. You can install gnome or kde as well, so yes, you will have the same DE as in ubuntu/kubuntu.

Re: some questions..

I'm never too sure what people mean by "faster".  Do you mean that you could have done some productive work in the time saved in boot time or whatever?  If so, the answer is no.

Flash works fine.

Re: some questions..

The wiki is your friend.  If you're not one to like to read about things, and you want something to just work, Arch isn't for you.  Stick with Ubuntu.  <--- not meant to be sarcastic.

Re: some questions..

cobra11 - you're wearing out any goodwill that the community is prepared to extend to you by asking simple questions that are answered in the wiki e.g. how to install from USB, and subjective questions that will depend entirely on the responder's opinion e.g. if xfce is faster and works better than gnome. Read the beginner's guide, and any other relevant wiki articles, complete your install, and if you still have questions, search the wiki/forum first, as they have probably been answered already.

If you cannot find the answer you need, come back here. If you don't like doing your own research, try another distro.

Re: some questions..

He is not being rude, but being truthful. There are tons of threads asking about which wm/de is the best, fastest, etc here and all over the net. There is also plenty of info on each of them in the wiki. Here you are expected to read, search, try, and then finally ask.

As about your 'gui' wm/de question, the answer will only solicitate responces from those who want too boast about their favorite environment, with most reponsces (as seen in other similar threads) being "try them all yourself and decide for yourself". You don't have defaults given to you here and are expected to be able to think for yourself.

Using a distro like arch requires a certain mindset, the kind that causes you to want to read and search before asking and to be respectful when you do ask. You have to ask yourself, do you have the right mindset or are you expecting to have all the answers just given to you? This is not that kind of distro. Beginners can easily  use this distro as long as they take use of all of the information that has been provided and repeated countless times before.

Really, check out the wiki. I assure you, your questions are answered in there.
