NVIDIA AGP fast write,SBA & agpgart questions <SOLVED

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Nvidia_ … Addressing

i guess this should be possible on arch...whats the equivalent of the file mentioned here :

/etc/modules.d/nvidia

in arch?

is anyone using FW and SBA?

i compiled kernel 2.6.11 today, and the olny way i was able to get the nvidia driver installed was by disabling the agpgart and DRM(direct rend. manager) completely( not even as a module)...is this the right way to do it? 99% of the time things seem ok , but there is an occasional jerk while scrolling..will building agpgart/drm have anything to do with this

P.S - glxgears gives me the normal 4500 FPS even though agpgart and drm are disabled..

I had no problem with the nvidia package. It installed smoothly on my self-built 2.6.11 official kernel.

Re: NVIDIA AGP fast write,SBA & agpgart questions <SOLVED

for anyone who is interested, add this to your /etc/modprobe.conf to enable FW and SBA

alias char-major-195* nvidia
options nvidia NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1 NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1

Re: NVIDIA AGP fast write,SBA & agpgart questions <SOLVED

Hi,
I wasnt much interested in enabling them until i read wdemoss comment, but i dont fully know the meaning:

Does "hoses" mean something good or something bad?

Because the literal translation ... well.. lets just say it has little to do with the subject. smile

By the way>
Enabling this options has to be supported by your videocard, for example, my GF2MX has FastWrites but not Side Band, so watch out.

It means something bad. (i.e. it breaks the system)

Re: NVIDIA AGP fast write,SBA & agpgart questions <SOLVED

I use agpgart built-in. Well my kernel is fully monolithic apart from a few things not to bother about.

I have no DRM and no whatever framebuffer stuff or device.

And I like tuxracer lol
