Screen turns off on exit from X.

I have a Lenovo W500. On exit from X, either through Alt-Crtl-F1 or KDE logout, the screen and backlight turn off. This happens both when dropping to the login manager and to the console. When I restart X through the console (feeling my way with something like Ctrl-C Ctrl-C Ctrl-C Enter Enter startx), the screen turns back on. Has any one else experienced this? Are there any fixes or work-arounds?

Look for errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log? What is the video driver do you use?
Try the BIOS thing: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Install_M … nkPad_W500

Re: Screen turns off on exit from X.

I have the BIOS configured for the ATI FireGL with swapping off. I'm using the "radeon" driver.

Xorg.0.log only had a few warnings about my keyboard and mouse.

There was only one thing that made a difference from what I've tried so far. Booting to the display manager runlevel-5 and logging in and out of KDE works fine. But if I ever kill X with Alt-Ctrl-F1, the display manager never comes up and the screen stays off. OTOH, startx from runlevel-3 will always cause the monitor to turn off when I logout KDE or kill X.

Re: Screen turns off on exit from X.

I have Thinkpad R61. I had the problem with KDE\KDM some time ago until I move to GNOME and had no such issue. and now that I come back to KDE the same issue appear again. I think there is some miss configuration in KDM.
