OK, i will search for that and leave some note if found something smile.

I have no idea if you can disable vsync. Maybe it is application-based.

Quake III Arena is game on which im performing tests and like to rarely play it - vsync is disabled in game but still driver is forcing to use it. Catalyst behaves the same when you will force it to use vsync on every opengl application.

Perry3D wrote:

About flash videos: i think it is the fault of your window manager. If you use compiz try diabling "unridirect_fullscreen_videos" in ccsm/general.

Well... actually if i'll disable kwin - flash is tearing always smile, and unfortunetly kwin hasn't got any kind of "unridirect_fullscreen_videos" option sad
Edit: AFAIK UnredirectFullscreen is enabled on default kwin configuration...
Wow! That's actually working! Thanks Perry smile
I have added this line:
UnredirectFullscreen=off
to [Compositing] section of kwinrc file placed here: ~/.kde4/share/config/
and flash is looking good smile

I have successfully forced KMS to use 75Hz as refresh rate by putting:
video=1280x1024@75
to kernel boot options. But now i cannot force xorg to start with such rate... I have tried with no xorg.conf file and with
         VertRefresh  75.0 - 75.0
option in xorg.conf file...
It's always starting Xs with 60Hz refresh rate.
(and yes -  i can change refresh rate in systemsettings [kde's settings manager] to 75Hz without problems)
Heh... I guess it's some kind of monitor issue(?). Earlier with catalyst i have succesfully used:
        Option      "TargetRefresh" "75"
to force refresh. But here this option just doesnt exist. Any clue?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

@venky I have no idea hmm

@Vi0L0: but i experience other problems if this option is disabled. For example xbmc is really slow with compiz in the background. If it is enabled it works as it should.

/edit: The performance regression with vline support (prevent tearing) is discussed here: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26599

Solved with:

         VertRefresh  71.0 - 77.0
in xorg.conf

Yeaah, i have noticed that if this option is disabled - quake3a now exceeds vline(v-sync) and framerate is now touching 125fps (my handy limit) but in very strange more laggy way smile... - if kwin is disabled vline is back.
SMplayer for example behaves much better if this option is disabled.

According to comments we cannot disable vline, at least not now.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

I don't know how are you guys doing it. Anytime I enable kms, the whole screen is showing only for split seconds with a second or two delay.
This is what I've done:

1. kernel26-firmware-git
2. kernel26-git
3. radeon_ucode
4. libdrm-git with radeon experimental api
5. dri2proto-git, glproto-git
6. mesa-full without egl and nouveau
7. xf86-video-ati-git (it fetched xf86driproto)

I have a hd4850. I had the same problem a while back, but nobody seemed to have these problems and I switched back to stock kernel...

Edit: BTW I think there is an error in the wiki about the kms late start... I don't think with late start one should put radeon to modules in mkinitcpio.conf

Edit2:
Hm... I just tried with dvi->vga->display adapter and everything works fine, until now it was dvi->hdmi->display. Maybe a hdmi bug???

A question to you guys with mysteriously crashing systems: are you all running a recent build of KDE/KWin?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

@svejaka:
are you running kms?
Xorg.0.log and dmesg could be helpful. Also the list of the important packages with versions...
Are you using /etc/X11/xorg.conf? Try renaming/removing it

does anyone know who maintains the nightly repos?

If you want to contact them: http://tracker.kromonos.net/projects/show/nightlyarch

Edit:

Since the site is german here some more information:
x86 packages: kromonos (email: kromonos@user-helfen-usern.de)
x86_64 packages: flocke (email: flocke@user-helfen-usern.de)

Thanks

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Im trying to compile Mesa-full under a 32bit chroot. But it keeps picking up my x86_64 kernel and trying to compile using x86_64 asm. Anybody know how to force it to behave?

NVM I founded it.

Are you trying to compile lib32-mesa? If so, a little howto would be nice.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Someone in the ATI-Thread offers a repository on dropbox. That inspired me. So i did the same for some packages:
I need some testers:

[ati]
Server = http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4832298/x86_64

Content is (you can not browse on dropbox):

glproto-git
dri2proto-git
libdrm-git
mesa-full
xf86-video-ati-git
kernel26-git
kernel26-firmware-git
radeon_ucode

/edit: mesa has only the r600/r700 driver (i forgot to change this).

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Hi Perry3D

Does it mean that if we use this repository and use the contained packages, we'll have the latest packages needed to achieve 3D support (testing) with ATI r600/r700, without the hassle of building the whole ?

If it's so simple, that's a real gift you make smile

I have been wishing for this for ages, thank you.
I contacted the nightly repo guy and he has included the kernel-git in the nightly repo too.

Do you know how often your repo will be refreshed?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Hmm. I can not see the kernel26-git package in the nightly repo. And i muss mesa-full, too. If he change this i will stop offering this repo.

I think i will update it twice a week.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Hi all, I also have packages for the whole graphic stack on mupuf.org.

There are 10 of us using fulltime and didn't run into any issue since quite a while so, if you wanna try it, you can.

http://mupuf.org/packages/mupuf/ : 32 bits version (this one is the least updated and the kernel is based on the nouveau tree)
http://mupuf.org/packages/mupuf64/ : 64 bits version (the more updated)

If you have any suggestions about how to improve the packages, I'm open wink

Also: This website is hosted on my dedicated server. It has a 100Mbits/s bandwidth and no quotas.

Edit: I have scripts to recompile the whole stack. I can run it every day in a crontab if you want to. But, I usually upload a new version when I find it to be worth.

Edit2: I run these repo since septembre

I am getting libpthread-stubs not found, could you include that package in your repo too? It is needed for lib-drm git

I can see kernel-26-git in x86_64 repo
