[SOLVED] - Plymouth and nvidia?

Hi,
Wanted to try the plymouth boot process but ended up reading in the wiki about the lack of support for nvidia cards!
Is this still not working with nvidia cards?

using the good "nvidia" driver!

Have you actually tried it? I don't use it but I have tried it and had no problems with nvidia.

Re: [SOLVED] - Plymouth and nvidia?

Nvidia doesn't provide a fbcon driver, so you have two choices:

One, use vesafb/uvesafb for plymouth but you're potentially screwed if vesafb/uvesafb don't give you your display's native resolution (Nvidia vbioses usually don't have widescreen resolutions in them).
Two, use nouveau. 2d acceleration with nouveau should work very well, but 3d is still highly experimental, so you're screwed if you need 3d.

Re: [SOLVED] - Plymouth and nvidia?

@sand_man: Seems installing it is a bit complex so I'd pop a question first since the wiki said it's not supported.

@Gusar: I have widescreen so I will go for the nouveau suggestion. thx!

Hi, I used nvidia with framebuffer, mainly because I've got a 5:4 display, so I've got no problems at all. But, with a recent upgrade related to libpng12 (which, between other things, caused a massive breakage) plymouth was one of the casualties affected by it. Now, if I try to recompile it, I get a nice

checking for DRM... configure: error: Package requirements (libdrm libdrm_intel libdrm_radeon libdrm_nouveau) were not met:

No package 'libdrm_radeon' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables DRM_CFLAGS
and DRM_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found.  Stop.
==> ERROR: Build Failed.
    Aborting...
Error: Makepkg was unable to build plymouth-git package.

The fact is this isn't entirely true, because I got already working it some time ago, just with official nvidia drivers and framebuffer. I don't know if plymouth folks changed something nvidia related, but I can't find something useful in the forums or in the plymouth bugzilla.

Any hints will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Paul.
