zlib breaking my system

Hi all! big_smile

The zlib package is breaking my system every time I update it.
So I downgraded and put zlib in my ignore packages list.

The thing is..why would zlib break it?
I'm using openbox and everything is bleeding edge here.

There's nothing in the logs. But there is something not compatible with 1.2.3.7-2

the package I have here installed and that works is the 1.2.3.4-4..

Any ideas of how I could find the problem?
Is a new version going to fix it or am I doomed with 1.2.3.4-4 forever? o_o

Re: zlib breaking my system

Ok, sorry. I though I couldn't be more specific than that.

After upgrading to the latest zlib, when I login and openbox session starts, it will load some things on my autostart.sh,
such as the wallpaper, conky, and then it will just black out and go back to the login screen

It's too fast to read any error message but I even took a picture once (:P) and this is what I got:

X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown)

And that's it, back to the login screen.

I tried commenting everything in autostart to see if it's any application from there but the same thing occurred.

Please check if you are using the latest libxml2 package. (2.7.6-2)

I have local/libxml2 2.7.6-1 installed.

but pacman -Syu won't offer me 2.7.6-2

$ sudo pacman -S libxml2
warning: libxml2-2.7.6-1 is up to date -- reinstalling
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...

Targets (1): libxml2-2.7.6-1

How can I upgrade this package?

Use another mirror.

Interesting..so some mirrors will be 'ahead' of others ?

I tried other mirrors, some updates happened but libxml2 is still the same situation

Do you know what mirror I can find this package ?
Should I try all mirrors?

Re: zlib breaking my system

Install and use reflector or see https://www.archlinux.de/?page=MirrorSt … ync;sort=1

reflector -rl 20

Re: zlib breaking my system

So after using reflector, can I just:

reflector -rl 20 > /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

If yes, how often do I have to do that?
(I thought you were supposed to choose the mirrors nearest your location)

So after some new mirrors it updated another package but not libxml..
And trying to install asks for reinstalling

How come I have this old libxml2 package? yikes

I still have the old zlib package and can't find libxml2 to update

what to do?
should I just wait for a new libxml2 update?

Re: zlib breaking my system

So, according to the latest mirrorlist generated by reflector (do I have to do that always?),
my libxml2 IS up to date.

I also found that I have lib32-zlib 1.2.3.4-4, dependency for picasa.

Exact same version as zlib. Could that be the reason?

I really can't update this package or I'll stay without X server.
Any help please?

Re: zlib breaking my system

So I got a libxml2 udpate today together with 121 other packages

X won't start with the same problem, so the problem is not zlib anymore,
