I see the Wiki now and will try to fix my issue tonight. Issue is i just installed arch to my home pc and also my eeepc 1000HE netbook. Both installs went great! Only issue I had is on the home pc....it cannot read my usb thumb drives and internal cd/dvd drive. I have already given my user ID access to the groups needed and dbus and hal are in the daemon list. Curious , i am sure the wiki will give me the correct fix but why would this happen anyway and is it pretty common? Thanks!!

well i solved this awhile back..I think it was a combination of things ..some found here some elsewhere. Back reinstalling and same issue..sees usb and dvd but cannot read or write to them.I'm sure ill find the answer again (this time i wil write it down!) My question is this normal for all users at install? Or is it something with my hardware? I am in all the groups needed and it seems to not make a difference.

If it's groups that are the problem, try logging out and then in again.

revisiting this issue again..is there a way at install that u can make usb reading and writing default to on? I put myself in all the groups that i need to and always have a problem. HAL is active...drives me nuts!
