Which package to get for Shaman from the AUR?

There's several different packages for "shaman" in the AUR. Which one should I get? roll

shaman(v1) does not build and is not supported upstream.  shaman2 is pre-alpha but builds...  I would not trust pre-alpha software with package management.

Well actually, my real question is: How do you get Shaman to work in Gnome?

I guess what I meant is which package (or packages) should i install to have Shaman available in gnome?
(Or is it already available since i have also installed KDEmod?)

Same answer as above.  shaman2-svn is available from KDEmod so you will not need to build it from the AUR.

You may want to look into gtkpacman which is a gtk2 frontend so is more GNOMEish.  Not sure if it still works...

Re: Which package to get for Shaman from the AUR?

Sorry, didn't know that shaman (1) won't build anymore. (Never used it, but plain shaman has got 508 votes tongue)

@trusktr: Shaman or any other qt apps should work well in gnome too; you only need to install qt and stuff from its dependencies.

Which one should I get?

pacman big_smile

Edit: if shaman doesn't build anymore, shouldn't someone go and flag it out-of-date roll?

Not anymore; even if you revert to the old polkit-qt and aqpm, it will start but it won't work.
And installing kdelibs just to make shaman2 work seems somehow overkill if one doesn't use KDE.

gtkpacman works fine, and does not depend on everchanging policykit/polkit from KDE, the way shaman does.
The only thing I'm confused about is how search works in gtkpacman. It finds keywords in descriptions, however results are different from -Ss or -Qs (less results than -Ss).

less is a lot more!

No, the out of date button is for the case there is a newer version of the program (in the same "branch") available. If a package does not build, it is an - upstream - bug.

Interesting. I'll check out the gtk one.  But yeah good ol' pacman is not bad if you know what package you want after googling around. haha

Hmmm... that is logical, but there should be some way the users get warned that this package is broken other than read the comments. Maybe add a "Borked" button tongue? Seriously though, I think we can use this out-of-date button just for warning. It *is* out for arch linux, just without an up-to-date one from upstream. Note that most AUR helpers will only warn you if a package is flagged out-of-date when you do some AUR search.
