Latest xf86-video-intel causing X crashes.

Few days ago I've updated my system (it was not outdated, though) and it started to throw me back to login screen after a few minutes of browsing the internet (I've caught about 40 crashes in two evenings!!!).
My first thought was about chromium, but after trying swiftfox, it disappeared. Than flash - but it was not a required ingridient of an X crash.
Taking a look at pacman.log gave me some ideas. I've tried downgrading the X-server (it was a part of that update), libdrm and some others with no luck. Finally, I've built the xf86-video-intel from ABS (there was an old PKGBUILD with 2.9.1) and it helped! smile
Does anyone expirienced such problem? Any ideas why does crash happened only while browsing?

Some more info:

Re: Latest xf86-video-intel causing X crashes.

I have seen some issues related to kernel 2.6.32 and Intel drivers, but those are more concerned with flickering and black screens. I am running the latest Intel driver myself and don't have any problems with it. However, my graphics card is older than yours (855GM).
I assume that you configured KMS properly, since my understanding is that the latest Intel driver requires KMS:

If nothing works, try to build xf86-video-intel-git from AUR. wink

Re: Latest xf86-video-intel causing X crashes.

Hi. I'm having the same problem and perhaps the following is usefull. I run Arch on an Acer Aspire One. I use kernel 2.6.31 because of wireless stability issues with 2.6.32. I have setup KMS and it seems to work fine accept for splahy, which won't display anymore.  No problem, is just iceing on the cake.

On my system X crashes while browsing using midori. I have allready tried to install xf86-video-intel-git from AUR, but the problem is still there. I will try, as the OP pointed out to rebuild xf86-video-intel and let the thead know what the results are...

Regards,
Rolf

Hmmm, problem seem to be non-existing with kernel 2.6.32. At least, I haven't noticed it after update to this version. I'm connected to my wired network, so the trade-off between X crashing while browsing (2.6.31) vs poor wireless performance (2.6.32) favours the latter at the moment. 'll try 2.6.32 for a while.

PS I did notice an updated version of midori available today (0.2.3). Perhaps this solves the problem also?

Re: Latest xf86-video-intel causing X crashes.

I'm using self-built 2.6.31, may be it is the root of the problem (using old kernel with new driver...). Will try new driver with 2.6.32 from repo.
I don't think that updating the browser helps, at least in my case, since I've tried it and also tried different browsers.
