Cannot login anymore?

Hello.

My 45 days old Arch installation suddenly stopped working today. Yesterday it worked flawlessly, but when the machine booted today, I couldn't do anything else than inputting the username, but it doesn't ask for the password - I can change between the tty1-tty2, etc. but can't login on either of them.

I am logging in from the terminal, by writing the login credentials, followed by startx. I haven't updated anything since wednesday or so. I've tried the fallback boot option, to no avail.

I am quite lost here, as I can't access any logs. What can I do? What's wrong?

What happens after you enter the username? Is there a difference when you login as your user or as root?

Re: Cannot login anymore?

I must admit I haven't tried logging in as root. The system just hangs, when I enter my username, as if it is verifying my username indefinitely.
