Most applications crash, ATI card and running xmonad

I am running arch + xmonad off a usb flash drive.

I am unsure if this is an issue with arch or xmonad but most my applications crash. All my terminals are fine but it started with firefox freezing. Then amsn started to disappear when i changed to another workspace, i tried pidgin but that crashes as well. I havent tested rhythmbox properly but that hasnt crashed.

The crashes occur a few seconds after i run them.

Also i have an ati graphics card and am using xf86-video-ati and have installed the following

libgl
ati-dri
xorg
xorg-input-drivers
mesa
hal

I think thats everything i have installed for X

and used Xorg -configure to write me a config file (i tried with no config file and hoped hal would do its job but nothing loaded)

Anyone had any similar issues or can think of something to help solve this?

I discovered the issue was with firefox, when not running everything was fine as soon as i opened it up things started to crash. I tried chromium but the same happened.

Epiphany didnt load and i wasnt a fan of dillo but it didnt crash.

I have finally found a browser that works and is alright, seamonkey

Anyone know the issue
