I'm looking for something snappy that I can use mainly for internet and text editing, on the go

Looks like the wireless card is problematic. Other than that, it seems ok.

eh, it's a broadcom which I have on my current laptop - ndiswrapper solves any problems with that... I did notice it seems to have a gay little antenna on the side, instead of integrating the antenna behind the display like most laptops

I only took a quick glance, but this is my first impression:
256 MByte ram - that's ok, really, unless your graphics memory is shared with your ram - and oh, that _will_ take 64 MByte of your RAM away, and you're left with 192 MByte.
Othervise - batteries have a tendency to brake. Make sure you know what you can do if it does.
To err is human... to really foul up requires the root password.

Yeah but I was planning on using it for things like firefox, vim, and mpd... that's about it... 256 might do good. But I'm going to hold off about 2 months to buy a new one (I want to pay off my credit card first) so things might come down

"256MB is enough" is a statement like "640kb is enough" ... it's never enough next week, when you are trying to do some big thing and after 4 minutes the compiler starts swapping and makes the 3h compile take 11h :-( (speaking out of bad experience)
The impossible missions are the only ones which succeed.

Man, some people get carried away with ram. I'm on a little Compaq Armada M300 with 320mb ram. I'm currently running:
xfce
firefox
thunderbird
gaim
xfmedia
azureus (ridiculously ram intensive)
gftp
2 xfce terminals
xchat
and I still have 112mb free.
Anyway, I think the laptop looks decent phrakture. But if you don't need a speedy machine (mine's a p3 600), you could probably get a much better deal on ebay. Other than the processor, mine is very comparable to that machine and cost me $350. Just my two cents
I am a gated community.
