gedit embedded terminal

terminal.jpg

When I run gedit as a user, the embedded terminal is unusuable. I am not shown a prompt and I cannot input any commands. (gnome-terminal works fine). However, when I run gedit in root, the terminal becomes usuable. Is there a solution to get the gedit terminal working as a user?

I have installed gedit through pacman as well as compiling it myself. I have tried to chown as well as chmod (777) to no avail.

sudo chown -R root:users terminal.gedit-plugin terminal.pyc terminal.pyo terminal.py
sudo chmod 777 terminal.gedit-plugin terminal.pyc terminal.pyo terminal.py

Any ideas?

Re: gedit embedded terminal

You said gnome-terminal works fine so what are you currently trying to use ? Terminator works just fine, too smile

** IMO, I don't think that it depends on the terminal you are using - all configs are missing anyway.

Re: gedit embedded terminal

never seen an 'embedded' terminal in 'gedit' ... (which doesn't mean there isn't one!)

Re: gedit embedded terminal

I don't have gedit to confirm or go through the exact paces, but i believe you have to enable a plugin to use the embedded terminal. Look somewhere in Preferences.

Re: gedit embedded terminal

This terminal is part of community/gedit-plugins. And, yes, it works here in my standard user.
But I did install the gedit-plugins only recently. May be any version mismatches?

Re: gedit embedded terminal

maybe if you start gedit itself from a terminal you will get a meaningful error message
