I've been googling, searching forums, searching the wiki, etc for the past three days.
I have two radeon 5750's in crossfire on x86_64. My sound card is HDA ATI SB with chip VIA VT1708S as reported in Alsa.
I would like to:
- Be able to play games in bin32-Wine (Mass Effect 1/2, Dragon Age, KoTOR, Oblivion, pcsx2 at least)
- Play games fullscreen without turning off the second monitor with crossfire enabled
- Pass the audio from my xbox through line-in to the speakers
- From aur: Play World of Goo and Heroes of Newerth (Heroes of Newerth works, but World of Goo gives errors. The AUR package seems to link the binary to a directory in /usr/share)
What I've tried:
- bin32-wine from arch-games with all of the games listed. None start, and some error out even during install. I'll add the error if I can get wine working again (just reinstalled alsa so it fails because alsa modules aren't loaded).
- catalyst 10.2 from dropbox with xorg-old
- alsa, oss, pulseaudio all channels unmuted. I can record sound using gnome's sound recorder on capture. I can do the aplay /dev/dsp thing, but I can't forward the sound to the speakers automatically. It works in WinXP, and it worked on Ubuntu before I replaced it with Arch.
For now, I have to go to class. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Try installing wine inside a chroot. It's a bit of a hassle to set up, but in the end, it's cleaner.
You could also try the arch-games repo and see if they have World of Goo precompiled.

Is there any way to get out of a chroot without rebooting? (If I am going to reboot, I may as well just play the games in Windows)

Hi,
I'm trying to do the same thing (running bin32-wine with some applications, catalyst driver) and I get this error:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 137 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 279
Current serial number in output stream: 279
I found this mailinglist message: http://osdir.com/ml/wine-users/2010-03/msg00293.html
So it might help installing a catalyst 32 bit version, if you got this error too. Unfortunately I don't know how to achieve this.

Did anything run for you with the 64-bit catalyst? My installations would run, but almost all of them would fail along the way and the ones that didn't would fail when I tried to run the game.
You have to use the AUR. If you're using catalyst 10.1, install this: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=24824
If you're using catalyst 10.2, install using the pkgbuild in the comments.
I haven't tried it yet because I'm away from my computer, but if you try it let me know how it turns out.
