I haven't play Planeshift in quite a bit, but from what I remember the client has to be updated first. When I play on Gentoo there was a second program used just for updating. Try that first and see if you have any luck.

That doesn't work either – planeshift has two executables in /usr/bin, namely planeshift and planeshift-setup (and planeshift-setup.orig, which is basically the same AFAIK). Both fail due to errors with libpng, some libs not being found and some of the art (shadow_noise.png or something like that) as well.

Try install the planeshift from Arch-games instead of the one from aur. the one in arch-games runs fine as it has been rebuild again new linpng/libjpeg
PLEASE read and try to FIX/FILE BUGS instead of assuming other have/will.

I am using it from arch-games, however I tried it from AUR too and new 0.5.2.1 version and still same problem...so this is something with my system and not game only

thats because there is no shared library link to libs directory....planeshift and planeshift-setup executable at /usr/bin make this links during startup so there is no problem with libraries at all...just errors I posted

I'm sorry, you're right – those problems have disappeared, now I only get the output you already described. However, I can't find shadow_noise on my system at all – do you have it? Does it perhaps come with crystalspace?
Offline
No I have nothing like this too and there is nothing like this in crystalspace package (or I just didn't find it)

Hm, okay, me neither. Tried unpacking the .zip files that come with the client, but they don't contain it. --repairing the installation doesn't help.
Offline
ok so now it is working
It doesn't run with OSS ati drivers. I had to install catalyst drivers....
Offline
Doesn't solve it for me, I'm using xf86-video-intel
But thanks for this anyways, maybe I'll find something related to that.

Well, then it is probably some mesa problem. Error with this png file still occurs with catalyst too, but it works without problem, so this missing file isn't critical for game running. However I'll remove solved from the title

If anyone has any further info to add to this please do so at http://archlinux-gaming.org/issues/134

I believe you neet libtxc_dxtn, a library for texture compression not shipped with open source drivers ... there are two versions in AUR, but I believe they're actually the same. I couldn't play regnum because of this, and planeshift either, but after I installed it both worked... But I'm not sure if this was critical to planeshift, I remember having to mess with the psclient.cfg too, but not sure what I've done...

libtxc_dxtn made no difference to me, I get the same errors & can neither update nor start PlaneShift?
I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.
I'm over it!
