keyboard indicator/switcher for openbox

I constantly have to switch between two different keyboard layouts. In KDE I can set keyboard layout per window which is exactly what I need, but KDE is getting a bit top heavy for my old laptop.

Is there anything like that for openbox? I checked fbxkb but that appears to be deprecated and is not being developed anymore. What do you lot use?

I use axkb-git. It requires qt, however.

Re: keyboard indicator/switcher for openbox

Cheers bernarcher - is it capable of applying a keyboard change on a window by window basis or does it affect the whole system? I will check tonight anyway...

Re: keyboard indicator/switcher for openbox

Have had axkb now for a couple of days. The long and short of it is that either openbox does not support different keyboard layout for different windows or there is some plugin missing - I simply cannot get it to work that way.

The longer version:
I was bothered at first that when I selected the "window" option and clicked on "save" the gui wouldn't disappear. So I thought it was a rights issue but my paths in ~/.config appear to fine.

Still looking for an answer to this one, then.

Re: keyboard indicator/switcher for openbox

I don't think this is possible as axkb (like all others I know of) basically uses the "setxkbmap" command to alter the keymap globally.

You would need a means to change the keyboard mapping whenever your window of choice becomes focused/unfocused. Unfortunately this is something I too long for a rather long time. sad At least I found no way to accomplish this in openbox (nor in IceWM btw.).

Re: keyboard indicator/switcher for openbox

Fancy that, two is a crowd smile

Unfortunately I don't have a clue about programming, but wonder who might know how to create a number of different xkbmaps and assign them to certain windows - that would at least be a start, although ideally one would like to be able to change the setting in a working window as well. Hell, they prolly know a lot better...

KDE or Gnome people perhaps?
