The 08-2009 ISO doesn't seem to like my laptops ethernet but Chakra does pick it up correctly (which I'm guessing uses a later build of Arch?)

So you don't have a release schedule? Fair enough.
Is there a way I can create my own ISO with the latest jazz?
I don't really want to have to install another distro in the mean time but Win7 really is doing my nut in

You don't need a install cd with the latest greatest, just install and update and you will have the latest and greatest
(or do a netinstall)

...which is not that easy if his ethernet chip is not supported by the kernel on the install CD. You could try to download the current kernel package from another PC and hope it will be installable.
But it's easier to use the archboot images which are updated more often: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=90886

If you can't wait that long, just grab [Archboot].

Hi, download from here:

Using the latest stuff. (mkinitcpio 0.6.3-1 etc)I found out a nasty issue that caused fs'es to be mounted in the wrong
order, thus breaking installations.
http://projects.archlinux.org/aif.git/c … perimentalif you want to test, be sure to install the latest aif from git
experimental branch. ( you can use the aur git package
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22101)in a while i will build a new aif package/new isos with new aif.

If you want to build your own iso
pacman -S devtools
mkarchroot /tmp/pichicho base
mkarchroot -r bash /tmp/pichicho
pacman -S git squashfs-tools syslinux devtools cdrkit make
cd /tmp
git clone git://projects.archlinux.org/archiso.git
cd archiso/archiso
make install
cd ../configs/syslinux-iso/
make core-isomkarchroot is not needed at all but I recommend it to ensure a clean enviroment

You could try an older iso too. Most packages have to be updated anyway when you use the ISOs (unless when they're very recent of course, but most aren't by now
), so you might try that as well.
The most recent releases give me a kernel panic on a lot of boxes, where the older 2008 ISOs work fine. In fact, it's the only Arch ISO I have burnt and am still using

Yeah, that's no good for a new laptop.
And the net install doesn't detect my ethernet drivers.

Since you said that the chakra image worked, you can always install arch using that ![]()

Since you said that the chakra image worked, you can always install arch using that
I was running that for a little while but it was very buggy in places. But then chakra is still very much alpha.
Plus I wanted to do away with KDEmod and give Arch's KDE repos a try.
So while I could have stripped chakra down, sometimes it's just easier to start from scratch and build up rather than trying to work backwards.
but I'll bare your idea in mind if I hit a brick wall with the other suggestions.

I asked the Chakra people to see if they could add a core install option but no dice. ![]()
