Hi,
I have a problem rotating jpg images with the KDE image viewers digikam and gwenview.
Gwenview displays rotated images when I rotate them manually, but if I close and open gwenview they are not rotated.
Also with digikam I cannot rotate images. It displays a message saying the rotation of the image failed. If I start digikam from a console, the error message
"QFile::setFileName: File (/tmp/kde-username/digikamM10192kipiplugin-rotate.JPG) is already opened"
Because the rotation fails with both programs I think the error is in the kipi-plugins somehow. The same error is displayed if I use kipi-plugins 1.1.0 from testing. The rest of the system is up-to-date Arch i686.
Any idea what I can do to solve this problem?

I am having exactly the same problem with the difference that it crashes showphoto (but gwenview does not crash).

Same problem here. Can't rotate images with Digikam or Gwenview.

I have the problem too, digikam do not rotate images. All from "extra", no "testing".
digikam 1.1.0-2
kipi-plugins 1.1.0-1
But showPhoto do rotate images, so i don't get it.
Is it KIPI or some other stuff?

I've noticed this as well (kdemod). I've also noticed I'm unable to click on knotes from openbox since 4.4... if I log onto kde, knotes works as expected. I've found an alternative for knotes, and thought I would have to do the same for gwenview, but it sounds like it doesn't even work in kde.

I think there are two problems:
- gwenview and digikam (thumbnail list) unable to rotate JPEGs (it does work with PNGs)
- showfoto crashing when saving images (all formats I tried)
So I created two bug reports upstream: gwenview and digikam/showfoto. The second one has been marked as resolved because I did not provide a GDB backtrace (just KDE's): I will provide the needed backtrace tonight (aproximately 10 hours from now).
Feel free to vote on both of them and/or add whatever relevant information you may have (a 'faster' gdb backtrace for the second one would be of help).

Strangely when I rotate an image with gwenview the change is not saved, but when I rotate it, do another change like removing red eyes and save, everything is saved without problems.

I have a similar but different issue. I can rotate pictures in gwenview, but they are not saved.
I get this in the terminal :
gwenview(19802) Gwenview::JPEGErrorManager::errorExitCallBack: Bogus virtual
array access
gwenview(19802): libjpeg error in src
And here's the relevant KDE bugreport : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=218107
However, someone told me he had no such issue with OpenSUSE + KDE SC 4.1.1.

There is a bug in digiKam 1.1.0 (and presumably also in Gwenview) when they have to work with the new libjpeg-8. Until this is fixed, you can do the image rotation with jhead.

Gwenview fixed by applying a patch at kdegraphics-gwenview 4.4.3-2.
